Post-naming anomaly

Things learned from Stormridgecardis.com last night during puppy birthing:

Avoid titling your post with just a number, or with just a special character (e.g. #) and a number. If you do, the post will have a permalink which will give a “404 not found error” when you try to link to it or try to post comments.

For example, a post titled #4 posted in October, 2011 on stormridgecardis.com will have an automatically assigned permalink url of http://stormridgecardis.com/2011/10/4/ which will not resolve.

I solved the problem by editing the permalink to http://stormridgecardis.com/2011/10/no4/ (and #3 to http://stormridgecardis.com/2011/10/no3/) and updated the page for Keith and Jo. I couldn’t change the link on FB so those links are still “broken”.

Wayback Machine

Keith asked me this morning if there was an archive for the Northwest Cardigan Fanciers site.  Not in the way he meant, but it made me think: when the website was transferred a couple of years ago from one webmaster to another, some of the older supported entry results and pictures were not taken over.  How nice it would be to find and relink some of that data.  Then a little lightbulb appeared over my head and I remembered the Wayback Machine.

There is an internet archive done of sites every so often.  It turns out that there are copies of nwcardigans.com from 2001 through 2008.  I was able to pull out all of the result pages from 1997 through 2006 and post them on the new website. Unfortunately not all of the pictures seem to have been copied.  I was able to get quite a few from Portland in January of 2001 and Couer d’Alene in July of 2004 but others are MIA.

Sometime when you are bored play around with it.  I have found some old pictures clear back from when my site was on earthlink that I plan to reacquire.
